This project proposes the use of an evaporative cooler to store the fish during the wait for transit to the market or purchase by IFPs. The evaporative cooler provides a means to achieve low temperature storage and hence longer shelf and storage life of fresh fish at a more affordable cost for the majority of fishermen and traders who are not able to economically use the available ice coolers or refrigerators due to factors such as purchase cost, their scale of operation, absence or high costs of electricity among others. The proposed solution relies on the use of hot dry air to generate a cooling effect by providing latent heat of evaporation, aided by the use of a wetted pad and forced drought system. We expect this cooler to lengthen the storage of life of fresh fish for up to 48 hours, allowing the fishermen and small-scale traders to reduce product spoilage, increase the time window of when they need to sell their products to the markets and IFPs agents, and allow them to sell at better negotiated prices and hence improve their incomes. #Refrigeration #Evaporativecooling #appropriatetechnology
