Cooking with biomass (Charcoal, firewood, animal dung etc.) is responsible for an estimated 4 million premature deaths, 2% of global CO2 emissions and significant deforestation. This project designed an integrated, DC electric cooking unit with the aim of displacing solid fuels in sub-Saharan Africa.
A comprehensive model was created to simulate and optimise the performance of the cooking unit, then a prototype was constructed and tested to validate the model results.
